The "lunar effect" is a term used to make a correlation between specific stages of the Earth's lunar cycle and deviant behavior in humans and possibly even animals. This is a pseudoscientific theory, which is one based on science but having no real scientific proof. It is also a theory studied within the realms of sociology, psychology and physiology and has for many centuries been a topic of studies and beliefs. Even the term "lunacy" is derived from the name Luna, a Roman moon goddess.

In a study released in November 2011, Dr. Blankenship and his colleagues discovered the enormous subsurface lake on Europa by carefully scrutinizing two bumpy, circular features in the old Galileo images, taken about a decade earlier. The "chaos terrains" were shown to be bizarre regions of floating and colliding icebergs and ice flows. This jumbled mess collapsed portions of the little moon's ice shelf.
There probably are many more lakes under Europa's ice, Blankenship continued to note. Furthermore, the prospects of searching for life on Europa could greatly improve. This is because research indicates that a percentage of the icy lids that cover the embedded lakes may be considerably thinner than was previously supposed.

Moons are natural satellites that orbit another body that, in turn, circles its parent-star. A moon is held in place by both its own gravity and the gravitational grip of its host planet. Some planets have moons; some do not. Several asteroids in our Solar System also are orbited by very small moons--and some dwarf planets, such as Pluto, also have moons. One of Pluto's five moons, Charon, is almost 50% the size of Pluto. For this reason, the two frozen worlds inhabiting our Solar System's remote twilight zone, are sometimes classified as a double-planet.
JAXA has announced a space mission scheduled to begin in 2022, with an expected return to Earth in 2026. "Its objective is to carry out close-up remote sensing and in-situ observations of both Phobos and Deimos, and to bring back samples from Phobos," commented Dr. Ryuki Hyodo in the July 4, 2016 CNRS Press Release. Dr. Hyodo is a planetary scientist, originally from Kobe University in Japan, and he is also currently collaborating with the IPG. "High-resolution impact simulations are still needed to understand more about the disk structure," he continued to explain to the press.
Earlier research had determined the quantity of material accreted onto the ancient Earth following the Moon-forming collision. These previous calculations were based on how the siderophile or "iron-loving" elements such as platinum and iridium show a strong tendency to wander down into our planet's core. Following each giant impact that the primordial Earth experienced, these elements would have leached from Earth's mantle and bonded with iron-rich, heavy material that was destined to travel down, down, down into our planet's heart.
